Note de suicide de James Hester

"J'ai saisi ce que je considère être la route la plus appropriée à ma délicate situation. Je ne garde de rancoeur pour personne, à l'exeption de l'église de scientologie. Ils se sont accordé sur ma fin. La manière dont ils Jouent avec les mécanismes de défenses des gens est un acte, au mieux, criminel. J'espère qu'ils pourront être condamnés."

"I have taken what 1 consider to be the most expedient way out of my present predicament. I harbor no resentment against anyone, except the Church of Scientology. They have a great deal to do with my demise. To play with people's defense mechanisms in the manner that they do is a criminal thing at best. l hope they can be outlawed." -- Suicide note by James Hester

Scientology Experiences - 05 Feb 2008

Source : http://cyb0rfox.livejournal.com/

As some of you know, today I visted a Scientology center to experience first-hand the human face behind this dangerous cult. I was asked to deliver some CV's to some various west-end hotels and I could go home after that, so I decided to visit the Church of Scientology center in Tottenham Court Road.

I met with a friend, we will call her rachel. We both thought taking a "I didn't know about that!" approach would be the best option. I was suited and booted and she was pretty smart so we both expected to be taken seriously at least.

I got to the center and a very tall man beamed at me and welcomed. He asked us what we were there for and I said I did a lot of charity work, had heard good things about scientology and was interested as I had meeting in two hours and I wasn't from round this way really. (I felt dirty.) I introduced myself and thanked him for his help.

He explained to me what it was to be a voulenteer minister and how glad he was L Ron Hubbard had created this organisation, and how grateful he was to be a part of it. He had this kinda.. 1000 yard stare thing going on, this real glazed look about him topped with a plastic sales smile. Rachel stayed quiet through all of this just nodding and smiling to what I was saying.

He said that since we had time to kill we simply must find out more about L Ron. He asked us to follow him upstairs a few floors, opened a door and there was a fucking cinema the size of my flat. I'm not even kidding. He sat us down, gave us some scientology pamphlets and said to come down when we were done. There was a CCTV camera in the cinema and I was paranoid there maybe microphones about, so all talking between myself and rachel was done very sneakily by mobile phone. Then proceeded a 40 min film of the life of L Ron Hubbard which was interesting for these facts alone:

- The word "Theatan" wasn't mentioned once

- The film being played was made in 1976

- He openly dissed psychology and how it was evil

- He said Scientology is not a religon.

- He's fucking ugly and has a monotonus voice.

- Funny enough, "Xenu" was not mentioned.

There was a book on "Dianetics" left in there too, I was going to try and steal it except it was in Dutch or Norweigan and was fucking huge. And the camera put the shits up me a bit.

Anyway. I was looking around the room after getting bored with him bullshitting and noticed these glowing brass scientology glyphs on the walls. It really creeped me out. The film finished and we walked downstairs, and was greeted by a very happy bouncy spanish lady. She said "Oh! you must be Marc! Did you have enough time for a free stress test? I bet we can tell you what's going wrong in your life without you even talking."

Hmmm, I thought. I read about e-meters previous to coming here, and they work on the same patterns a lie dectector does. From what I remember it detects changes in the electrical impulses sent by your brain. For those of you that don't know what one looks like, here is a picture:

I agreed and we went through to a private room. All there was in it was two seats and a table with an emeter on it. No fancy shit in this room, just plain walls and nothing interesting to look at. She asked me to hold to "readers" and say nothing, but imagine the pictures of what she was saying. Afterwards, I could reply and inform her aboutit. I decided to try and fuck with this by causing myself pain, and try to switch my thoughts between something scary and something exciting. Heh, screw you lady.

I was shocked at what happened next to be honest.

She said "So, do you have a girlfriend? How are things?". I thought of Rose, and our new flat. The needle stayed still. I told her things were good.

"How are your parents? Do you get on?" The needle stayed still. I told her they're doing fine.

Other fairly generic questions came and went. I forgot about trying to fuck with the e-meter. Then came..

"How's your job? Did you lie on your CV?". The needle went fucking mental. The woman looks up at me and I am shocked actually. "Everything Okay?" Well, yeah, kinda. "Is it your CV?" she asked. "No, it's fine, I replied." - The needle goes mental.

There was this second or two of awkard silence and she informs me, well, that's how it works - and they can make you "better" by using those to inform them what is wrong and putting you on the right course of action. We chatted for a bit, I was still slightly freaked out and annoyed for failing myself on their stupid test.

Rachel had been sitting out all this time and another lady beams up to me as soon as the spanish lady and I left the Testing room. She grinned and put her arm around me and was like "Marc! Have you heard all about Dianetics then? I hear you help people out in your job too." I only mentioned charity work at the desk really, so I assumed they'd been talking about me. I told her that I had heard a lot and was very informed. All of the scientologists i had previously spoken had come over now and started pushing me to buy this £10 book. I stuck to my guns.

I noticed the lass that had bounced up to me had electric blue nailvarnish and was very very pretty, and kept touching me on my arm. She had a really annoying laugh and stared me straight in the face every time i spoke. We thanked them all and said we felt very informed. They gave us a wad of flyers and a whole lot of phamplets on their new program "Narconacon" (Scio's against drugs). The woman ran up to me and grabbed me again and thanked me "so so much for coming in" and that I should come back and we should talk more as we are both in the same kind of jobs really, helping people. It was quite obvious that she was flirting with me to attract yet more intrest in them. I thanked her again and left.

Rachel and I walked down the road and into the intrepid fox for a quick pint, and went through the whole thing together. That was really, really fucking weird.

Conclusion:- I really have a better understanding now of why the members are like they are. Remembing my reaction on the e-meter and how they would dig into each little thing someone would bring up, a scientologist would have all of these spoken through until there is no "knee-jerk" impulses. This would give them that seemingly creepy attitude where they feel like nothing can phase them or touch them as they would have supressed that emotion through years of auditing. It's really put a public face on things, and they creep me out more than ever.

Protest this Sunday. 11am. Blackfriars station, Then to the UK HQ of the Church of Scientology
