Moscow: 3000 signatures in protest
against the offices of the cult of Scientology

Remarque d'anti-scientologie :Attention de ne pas mettre le feu au local de la secte.
Ce serait un acte de terrorisme pour les USA ... et au minimum une action qui discréditera votre mouvement

21 March, 2008 more than 700 students, graduate students, and professors of the Bauman Moscow Public Technological institude, in coordination with the movent "Russia Young" had an action of protest at the entrance of the main building of the MPTI against the location of the american totalitarian sect "Church of Scientology" near the university....

Maskim Mishenko, the leader of "Russia Young" came out to speak "Recently in the area of the university an organization has appeared. This organization plans to attract students to take their money and their free will. We have come today to say "NO TO CULTS" We will not let them disrupt our lives and educations. Begon from Bauman's"

After a short meeting, the students proceeded to the office of the cult, which is in a building right next to the campus of the MPTI. Security did not allow the students to enter the building, but about 10 cultists came outside to meet hte students. They refused to speak, and threatened legal actions. The cultists also actively took photos and had video cameras. The students lit several flares. The main rallying cries were "DOWN WITH CULTS" and "Put the cultists to bed, then go to exams" (Uh, sort of doesn't translate well -ED)

31st of March, the Scientologist's rental agreement with the building owner expires. Even before the protest, the students collected more tha 3000 signatures in protest against the offices of the sect being located near one of the leading Techological institutes in the country. The signatures have already been sent to the Mayor of Moscow, the owner of the building, and Prefect of the CAO (dont's ask, I dunno what this means -ED) Bajdajkovu.
The students to not plan to stop untill their goal of the removal of the cult is achieved.

Analysis of an anonymous (forums.enturbulation.org)

This is great, but the whole reason is slightly different. Russia has major political issues at the moment, and a lot of people are weary of such actions, and consider them as a ploy by the government to distract people from problems such as the economy going to all hell, decreasing human rights, etc.

Anon raid ?

Is not an Anonymous protest, but there's been protesting against Scientology in Russia. (Anonymous raid is planned for the 22nd)

Serbsky Institute director accuses of organizing
a provocative exhibit in Moscow

http://www.interfax-religion.ru/?act=news&div=20655

October 4, 2007. Interfax.

The director of the state science Serbsky Center of social and forensic psychiatry, Tatyana Dmitrieva says that the "Psychiatry, Industry of Death" exhibit that was recently closed in Moscow was organized by Scientologists and carries the character of provocation.

"This exhibit was organized by the Scientology sect that discredits doctors.  It is medical personnel that have a need for protection from these unfounded attacks," said T. Dmitrieva in an interview published in the Thursday issue of the "Gazeta" newspaper.

The international exhibit "Psychiatry, Industry of Death" opened September 26 in the Moscow State  Vernadsky Geological Museum and was closed after three days, in spite of the fact that it was supposed to have run until October 18.

The exhibit, according to its organizers, narrated the practices of 20th century forensic psychiatry in the USSR, Nazi Germany, and today's USA and Russia. Displays at the exhibit included works from psychiatrists and intelligence offi- cials during examinations and in the matter of training terrorists, forced psychiatric treatment of children, injected with habit-forming psychotropic drugs, and cruel treatment and torture of people living in psychiatric wards.

As Tatyana Malchikova, chairman of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) and organizer of the exhibit, said in an interview with "Gazeta", "the contract was canceled and money returned," and the exhibit was taken down.  She said that "The museum director informed us that he was called and told to close the exhibit or else he would lose his job."

T. Malchikova denies that CCHR was founded by Scientologists.

"Scientologists participate in CCHR, just like Catholics do in the Red Cross. The Russian branch was founded in 1998.  We protect people who are suffering from forensic psychiatric in the courts," she said.

However the official page of the Russian branch of CCHR openly states that the organization "was founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and world famous writer, Doctor Thomas Scasz, distinguished professor of psychiatry, retired."

"We are proud that our organization was founded by the Church of Scientology, which has many years experience of fighting and impressive achievements in the field of protecting human rights. CCHR members work in close contact with members of the Church in the matter of realizing social reform and consulting with divisions of the Church that are engaged with issues of social reform and human rights," it says on the web page.

The "Church of Scientology" is a religious organization founded in the mid-20th century by American writer Ron Hubbard.  According to information from renowned Russian sectologist Alexander Dvorkin, it is considered a totali- tarian sect in many countries.

Meanwhile the Scientologists deny this accusation.  Elena Shklyarova, official representative of Scientology Church Moscow, says that "Scientology is a religion" and that "the religion grows and continues its existence to the degree that it is able to help people in their spiritual life."

ANN correspondent Gennadiy Aleksandrov.
On Monday Novgorod City court validated the legal claim of city Duma deputy
Aleksander Daina against Novgorod's "Scientology and Dianetics Distribution Center."

As the plaintiff, Aleksander Daina stated during the legal proceedings, the prior history of his conflict with the Novgorod Scientologists happened in Spring 2005, when voters came to the city Duma deputy with complaints about operations by activists from Novgorod's "Scientology and Dianetics Distribution Center."

According to Aleksander Daina, the methods of their activity in the Novgorod region did not differ much from the city.  With an importunity typical for adepts of this organization, they "confronted" people on the street, at the large neighboring market andanyone who came into their office (the NPA company, which Daina manages, is in the same building as the "Scientology and Dianetics Distribution Center) and offered them "tests" and "promises."  All this, in Aleksander Daina's opinion, served one purpose: "to attract city residents into the sect."  In a fairly short period of time nearly 50 statements, written and verbal, appeared on his desk with requests to help and to somehow "regulate" the behavior of the Scientologists.

When Aleksander Daina got in touch with the Scientology Center's management and tried to make himself heard, they met with him in a way he says was unfriendly, and were indignant at the "interference with the activity of an officially registered organization" and declared that he was trying to restrict their freedom to practice religion.

What's more, on May 24, 2005 the Scientology Center's director sent letters to the city prosecutor, to the regional and city Dumas and to the Velikiy Novgorod city mayor's office.  These letters asserted specifically that Deputy Daina "used his position" to encroach upon the religious rights of the people, a violation of the RF Constitution, and that his actions were unbecoming of a city Duma deputy.  Scientology asked that "measures of an ethical character" be taken with regard to Aleksander Daina.

The mayor's office took the Scientologists' letter seriously and decided to bring the issue "on Aleksander Daina's conduct" to the ethics committee.  This step, in the words of Aleksander Daina himself, was the straw that broke the camel's back.  Without waiting to be called and be "put through the mill" by the committee, Aleksander Daina went to the Novgorod city court with a complaint concerning his defense of honor and dignity, and specifically asserted that the Scientologists' letter was a framework of negative information that, first, did not correspond to reality and second, did him mental harm. Aleksander Daina assessed his complaint against Scientology in the amount of one million and one rubles. He explained this figure by saying that in the event he won, he would give one million rubles to charity and keep the one for himself, "as a souvenir."

Legal proceedings chaired by Judge Anatoliy Viyuk began June of 2005.  The defendants refused to acknowledge the legal claim, asserting that in no way could their letter have affected the deputy's honor and dignity.  For an impartial assessment of the situation two linguistic experts were called: the first in Velikiy Novgorod and the second in Moscow.  The experts worked nearly four months on the linguistic assessment of the Scientologists' letter, and at the end they came to the conclusion that the letter that had been distributed by the Scientologists contained "negative information" about the plaintiff.

Judge Anatoliy Viyuk concurred with that position on Monday, and he made a decision about satisfying, in part, the deputy's claim.  The amount the court set in accordance with the principle of justice was 10,000 rubles, to be collected from the Novgorod "Scientology and Dianetics Distribution Center." Besides that, Scientology is instructed to rescind the letter sent to the city prosecutor, the regional and city Dumas and the mayor's office.

"The amount to be collected, of course, is not a big deal, but I still won't back down from what I said.  When the Scientology Centers pays me 10,000 rubles for discrediting me, I will keep one ruble and all the rest goes to charity," Aleksander Daina told an ANN correspondent as soon as the court hearing, which had lasted a little less than year, ended.

ANN Information

Scientology considers its teaching a religion, the goal of which is "true spiritual enlightenment and freedom for the individual."  However, according to information from foreign and Russian religious experts, the Church of Sciento- logy is a totalitarian sect founded in the late 20th century by American writer Ron Hubbard, who was recognized by courts of various countries as a criminal, and who was declared persona non-grata in a number of countries.  As reported in the reference book "New Religious Organizations of a Destructive and Occult Character in Russia," (where on the basis of Russian and foreign official documents the "Church of Scientology" is classified as a destructive religious organization (totalitarian sect, destructive cult), Hubbard originally tried posing Dianetics as a science, but upon meeting with complete non-acceptance from scholars, he was forced to give it a religious "screen."
