SCIENTOLOGY: CULT OF ABUSES

Anonymous interview with Graham Berry about Scientology (Anonymous-Hamburg - 7th September 2008)

Anonymous interview with Graham Berry about Scientology

The interview was done after the "This is Scientology !" event of the ministry of the interior of Hamburg, Germany. It was about the events before, during and after the conference. Subtitles were added for your convenience.

Transcript:

This is after the „This is Scientology !" event and I just wanted to ask you some questions.

So, what happened before the event, before you got here ? What difficulties did you have with Scientology just related to the event ? When you heard of it, when you came here.

Well, we had no difficulties in Los Angeles except for Jason. Jason's wife at three in the morning received a phone call from Tommy Davis, who you all know. And Tommy wanted to talk with Jason. And she didn't tell him until the next morning when we were at the airport. And Jason decided he wouldn't call Tommy cause he knew exactly what Tommy wanted to talk about. So we travelled to Los Angeles and when we got here and got to the hotel where we were staying, the entheta hotel in Ursula's entheta city, we noticed that several of the people who were on the plane were also at the hotel what by itself means nothing. But after a while when they are constantly near us all the time we began to wonder.

When we noticed these two men repeatedly we began to obviously realise they were private investigators. The first morning we were here we learned very early that at three in the morning American Express allegedly had phoned the hotel and ascertained the numbers, the room numbers, of Mark and Jason's rooms. So we had to all change our rooms immediately for fear they were going to access the rooms while we were away. When we had our meeting at the trade union org there were demonstrators outside from Scientology. And inside.. Well, let me back up a moment. We also learned that morning that David Miscavige sent his own delegation to Hamburg from the U.S.

David Miscavige had sent Monique Yingling, who is one of his top tax-lawyers, from Washington and had sent Bill Walsh who is another top Scientology tax-lawyer from Washington, along with Kendrick Moxon who is the lead attorney from within OSA and also Tommy Davis and Jessica Rodriguez who unto recently at least as been babysitting, shall we say, Kathie Holmes.. her children... Is there a difference ?

And they had a job to do, apparently, and that was to stop the congress. And they went to court.

Two pieces of apple cake. And here is more cake, so we'll have to stop for more cake.

Before we had this delicious cake, I was talking about changing rooms. And we changed rooms and we learned the real reason why D. M. hat sent his delegation and that was to try and shut down the congress all together. He had lawyers in Munich, over at the court in Munich, who tried to prevent the conference from happening or for them to have access to the panel as well. And Ms. Caberta's lawyers convinced the court that that shouldn't happen because they had already known for four or five weeks that it was going to happen and if they had wanted to attend they could have sent a letter then and made their reservations. By the time they decided to do it it was too late and it was sold out. So there was no room at the end for Scientology so they had an epic fail at that.

So we started the congress and they were protesting outside and they also, once again, tried to come inside. Sabine Weber, the head of OSA in Germany, came in, so did Kendrick Moxon and they still couldn't get access. Moxon approached two of the employees at the working group of Scientology. He demanded their passports, he demanded their identification because Mr. Moxon was gonna sue them. For some reason Mr. Moxon, the Los Angeles lawyer, thinks he can come to Hamburg, to entheta city, and demand identification and passports and file lawsuits. But they said no and he had to go away. And so both in the courts and at the congress D. M. and his delegation had an epic fail and went home empty handed for lower ethics conditions.

That's very good ! I didn't get that, I was inside during that time. But what I really found disturbing were the kids distributing the black PR in front of the building. Did you see them ?

I didn't see it other than looking down from the windows and when we were driving in, but that isn't anything unusual. And what they say in their black PR is not unusual, it is of course outrageous, none of us are neo-nazis and none of us are storm troopers and the like but they call us that anyway. And perhaps someone might sue them eventually for defamation.

So, how did you like the event at all ?

It was a big win, it was packed to capacity, I think, and it was attended by a lot of interesting people from right across Europe, people from the government, people from NGOs and non-profits, lots of Anonymous and lots of interested people from the public. And the panel, I think was an interesting panel. Larry Brennan gave an excellent speech on his involvement in the corporate reorganisation of Scientology back in 1981 and 1982. The reorganisation has lead to the current structure which he explains in his affidavit which is on the internet, 'The affidavit of Lawrence Brennan' I think, or maybe 'The affivadit of Larry Brennan' it can be found under that term. Then Mark Headley spoke about some of his experiences during his 15 years as a staff member at the international headquarters at Golden Era Productions in Gilman Hot Springs near Hemet, California. He has lots of interesting anecdotes about the abuses and violence and the typical assaults committed on staff members by David Miscavage and some of the brutality that is conducted there.

One story he didn't tell, that is particularly horrifying, is one set of lower conditions he had to do. D.M. apparently is always looking for something worse to punish staff members with. And this time he came up with the sewage ponds. Out in Hemet they have sewage ponds and so Mark Headley, for one ethics handling, had to spend a number of days working in the sewage ponds up to his thighs in sewage, without any protection whatsoever. And that has led to have him to having permanent restroom problems. So that's the sort of dangerous thing that Scientology, and especially David Miscavage, can engage you. So Mark Headley spoke very emotionally about his experiences at Gold Base. Jason Beghe spoke publicly about his experiences as a celebrity and the sense of betrayal he felt when he discovered the true dark side of Scientology. And you can probably see what he said on the internet. And then I spoke on how Scientology influences the U.S. legal system for its own ends and I think that's probably on the internet already and if it's not the text of my speech will be posted sometime next week.

The aftermath of the conference. Do you already know of things that came out of it ?

I've just spoken about the public event that was on Thursday evening. And there was a media conference, a press conference that morning and the results of that press conference have already started appearing in the press. And that was very interesting, some of the questions that were asked by the media about the current condition of Scientology and its decline in both numbers and income and its stat crashes and declining in G.I. or grows income, decline in staff members. More people have to deal with more problems.., sorry.

Less people dealing with more problems and less money. So that was on the Thursday morning and on the Friday we had a very interesting closed door briefing and discussion with some of the representatives from different governments across Europe and some of the different NGOs that are working with the governments to deal with some of the crime and abuse and infiltration of the Scientology enterprise here in Europe. And we are already seeing the results of that in terms of increased cooperation by those with knowledge with those who need knowledge. And I'm speaking now of prosecutors and government officials who need the information that some of us have and some of us have access to so they can better do the job they are doing now. The Belgium court case being one of them

And now for the Anonymous crowd. Was Anonymous ever a theme in all this or mentioned ?

Yes, Anonymous of course made the event even more successful cause they were there in great numbers from all across Europe. We hade Anonymous from Ireland, we had Anonymous from England, Anonymous from all across Germany, from Berlin, from Hamburg, from Munich, from Stuttgart, there were people from Cyprus. It was an epic event for Anonymous and so much more successfully because of Anonymous and hopefully Anonymous can help us build on this success with similar events both here and in the United States.

Exposing Scientology through streaming video
