Here are some of my reflections following the wedding of Tom Cruise,
which has received a lot of media coverage

By Jean-Luc Barbier, webmaster of anti-scientologie.ch

The public must not ignore there are two kinds of scientology. On one side, the one made for the rich people, where the tough selling methods are prohibited and money donations well calculated and on the other side the one made for the easily exploitable people or the people who can be despoiled until they have no money left to pay their health insurance.

Scientology presents itself has the "best ethic group in the world" able of teaching the foundation of communication (sic). Then why Tom Cruise is getting married for the third time and seems to ignore how to live with a non-scientologist woman? (Though, if I wanted to be the devil's advocate I could say scientology constantly tells his followers that they cannot live with someone who doesn't defend their values).

Scientology pretends one can be both scientologist and catholic, scientologist and Muslim. Agreed, but one must know that a scientologist wedding hide a very particular manipulation. It is part of the excessive scientologist tendency to ritualize each and every action of his followers who promise in front of witnesses to confess every deviation or no respect of a scientologist rule.

Ex-Scientologst Claims Tom Cruise Held Casting Calls to Find a Wife
Source: http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/5131

Ex-Scientologist Marc Headley, who used to make promotional films for the controversial religion, has now made the claim that Tom Cruise's marriage to Katie Holmes was set up after a series of fake casting calls for actresses failed to produce him a wife. According to Headley, Scientologist leader David Miscavige organized an audition process for possible wives, which was secretly disguised as a casting call for a new movie in which Cruise was the star.

Headley told News of the World:

"After that (splitting from Cruz), he started complaining to his best buddy David about his luck with girls. So Miscavige assigned a high-ranking official with the order: 'Find a wife for Tom Cruise.'

"The official put out a casting call to female actresses, including Scientologists, saying, 'There's an upcoming Tom Cruise movie you might get a part in. Come for an audition.'

"But in the end no movie was made. They had to be single, they had to be pretty and in their 20s.

"First they rounded up Scientologist actresses like Erica Christensen, Erica Howard, Sofia Milos. But they were all rejected."

Apparently the official then tried to Jennifer Garner, who had just begun dating Ben Affleck. That didn't work out. Headley says after Garner they went for Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba.

But then Katie Holmes was heard gushing about Tom, and was called out to LA to meet with him.

"The moment he meets her, he's enthralled with her and he told Miscavige later, 'I knew immediately she was the one,'" said Headley.

Alors, seulement, on a contacté Katie Holmes.

ITALY: POLICE SET UP ANTI-SECT TASK FORCE

www.adnki.com Rome, 6 Dec. (AKI)
[Texte intégral]

Italian police have set up a special task force of investigators and psychologists to fight the growing number of sect-related crimes, reports said on Wednesday. The new Anti-Sect Squad made up of 15 top investigators will reportedly cooperate in investigations nationwide on serious crimes involving drug use, embezzlement and murder.

The phenomenon of sects, said Italian police chief Gianni De Gennaro in a document published Wednesday by Turin daily La Stampa "is more widespread than generally thought - it exploits the fragility, emotional turmoil and the ignorance of people, mostly the young generation, feeding a culture of hate and death."

According to the international Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR) as many as 100'000 Italians have recently converted to new cults - with an estimated 1'400 affiliated to satanic groups.

London, Dec 1 (IANS) Hollywood actor Will Smith has turned down friend Tom Cruise's efforts to convert him to Scientology because he doesn't want to upset his late grandmother.

According to contactmusic.com, Smith says he has spoken with Cruise, a fervent campaigner for Scientology, about the church but he could never follow writer and thinker L. Ron Hubbard's belief system.

He says : 'I've talked to Tom about it - (there's) lots of incredible, wonderful concepts (but, my wife) Jada (Pinkett Smith) and I don't necessarily believe in organised religion.

'I was raised in a Baptist household and my grandmother would get up out of her casket (if I became a Scientologist).'

Smith and his family were among the special guests at Cruise and Katie Holmes' Scientology wedding ceremony, which took place last month in Italy.

After a week of hide and seek with the paparazzi, the actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were "married" last night in front of a pantheon of celebrity friends in a 15th-century castle outside Rome.

Katie Holmes gazes from a Castle Odescalchi window

The couple read personal vows in a ceremony conducted according to the rules of the Church of Scientology, then partied into the night and watched fireworks over Lake Bracciano. They were married in the Hall of Arms in the Castle Odescalchi, flanked by pages wearing the eagle-and-lion livery of the Orsini-Odescalchi family. The boys were under strict instructions to "have a wash, a shave, and a session on a sunbed" before the ceremony. At dusk, dinner-jacketed major domos lit torches to illuminate the walls.

Cruise, 44, also wore a dinner jacket, while Holmes, 27, wore a pale-pinkish chiffon sheath dress, fringed with crystals. Both outfits were designed by Giorgio Armani. The bride had dabbed on some Clive Christian perfume — at £1,200 an ounce, it ranks among the world's most expensive scents.

Their baby, Suri, was left in the private apartments of Princess Maria Pace Odescalchi, the owner of the castle, under 16th-century frescos by Federico Zuccari.

The couple were led through the Scientology service, which is similar to a church service but not legally recognised in Italy, by David Miscavige, the head of the movement. They did not have a civil union but their spokesman insisted that the wedding would be legal, leaving open the possibility that they will tie the knot formally later.

After the wedding, Andrea Bocelli, who refused to sing Ave Maria at the ceremony because of his Catholicism, sang for 250 guests who included Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey and Will Smith.

The ceremony had started late in the evening, partly because Victoria Beckham, who took advantage of the afternoon schedule to fit in a morning of shopping at Gucci in Rome, was delayed. She wore a Valentino dress, while Lopez, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jenny McCarthy all wore dresses by Marchesa.

However, David Beckham missed the ceremony after being recalled at the last minute to Madrid. Although he is carrying a knee injury, which did not prevent him from partying until 5am yesterday at the Hassler Hotel, his manager at Real Madrid insisted he fly back to sit on the bench against Racing Santander. As he departed, Beckham vowed to return by private jet for the reception.

Holmes arrived in the early afternoon in a Mercedes limo, pausing to pick up her parents, Martin and Kathleen, from their hotel. Just as she pulled up, a rain storm soaked the hundreds of well-wishers who lined the roads and piazzas.

Children in Bracciano skipped school and waved American flags and banners welcoming the couple. Several of them applauded the downpour, since an Italian proverb states that "a drenched bride will be a lucky bride".

An hour later, Holmes was spotted in a sleeveless black dress holding Suri up to a window so that the child could see the crowds. Cruise arrived later and waved through the back of a sports utility vehicle with blacked-out windows.

The town has been besieged by photographers and journalists in the past week, and happy residents were charging £4,000 for balconies and roofs overlooking the castle. Bracciano's entire stock of stepladders was exhausted by paparazzi keen to secure viewpoints, with the final few going at £50 a piece.

The streets were lined with balloons and baskets of white roses, while several restaurants devised special menus. At Il Ristorantino, diners could opt for a Top Gun menu, including a Mission: Impossible fettucine with seafood and a Suri apple pie.

More than 150 police officers and security guards patrolled the grounds with dogs, and two photographers camped inside the castle were quickly put out. A grandmother also caused a brief kerfuffle by breaching security on a shopping trip and had her bag confiscated by police.

After the wedding, guests were expected to banquet in the castle, and staff of Daturi and Motta, a Turin catering company, had been ordered to scour the Roman markets for artichokes, a favourite of Cruise's but sadly out of season.

Police were planning to keep the town cordoned off until 2am today, when the guests were expected to be conveyed back to their hotel suites in Rome.

The siege of Bracciano, a pretty lakeside town near Rome chosen by the film actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes for their wedding on Saturday, has begun.

Castello Odescalchi in the Italian town of Bracciano

Police, journalists, celebrities and even Italian aristocrats have already begun to converge on the picturesque town where Tom and Katie paraphernalia has begun to appear in shop windows.

At the Trattoria del Castello, Elisa Pedroni has created a "Katie and Tom risotto" of mushrooms and truffles served inside a wheel of Parmesan. "It's a dignified way of marking the event," she said. Emidio Falcione, the owner of London Polo, a clothes shop, has gone as far as to dedicate four shop windows to Cruise and his bride.

In one window, "Maverick" is spelt out in giant letters in front of a Top Gun-style flight jacket. "The wedding will be great for business," he said. However, he admitted:"We haven't sold any more of the flight jackets than usual."

Everyone is agreed that the wedding is the most important thing to happen to Bracciano since the town was chosen by Baron Napoleone Orsini as his court during the Renaissance.

The Italian nobility, however, will not be in attendance. Several nobles reportedly asked Princess Maria Pace Odescalchi, the owner of the castle, if they could volunteer to work at the function, but were turned down.

"Many of us would do anything to stand near Cruise," sniffed one. "Even if, in my opinion, and I am not saying this because I haven't been invited, I find him a bit badly educated," she added.

The couple, with baby daughter Suri, arrive in Rome

Yesterday three helicopters circled noisily above the Castle Odescalchi, an imposing 15th-century fort where the nuptials will take place. On the ground, the castle was surrounded. Television vans and delivery lorries were already choking the narrow streets in the piazzas outside. While glum photographers camped in the cafes opposite, unable to penetrate the castle's high walls with their long-lenses.

It remains unclear how the 30 limousines planned to ferry guests, including David and Victoria Beckham, will negotiate the Via della Praterina, the tiny one-lane tunnel they must pass through to reach the castle.

The dark blue jeeps of the Carabinieri military police have also arrived and the council expects to foot the bill for the extra ambulances, lavatories and staff required to cope with a wave of tourists who are expected to make the one-hour journey from Rome.

However, it is doing its best to recoup its costs.

Permits for photographers are priced at £68, parking permits for television vans cost £200, while a spot in one of the council windows overlooking the castle is currently priced at £680. Receipts note that the sums are "donations for the improvement of Bracciano".

The precise logistics of the wedding remain a mystery, although the Italian press has suggested that Cruise will follow Scientology's traditional ceremony and offer his bride "a pan, a comb and perhaps a cat".

“TomKat” finally made it down the aisle with a 7-month-old baby in tow.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Scientology vows were sealed with a reported 3-minute-kiss, until someone yelled, “stop,” though perhaps they might have just said, “cut.”

TomKat wedding

An Italian castle near Rome was rented out for the marital production that reportedly was budgeted at about $10 million, which is easily the going price for an independent film.

The supporting cast included David and Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony, Jim Carey and girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Richard Gere and a “cameo” appearance by Brooke Shields.

Shields has apparently forgiven Cruise for bashing her on national television. Scientology’s “Top Gun” used the actress as an example of what’s wrong with taking medication for depression, something that seems to be the ”unpardonable sin” amongst Scientologists.

Speaking of Scientologists, quite a few of Cruise’s religious brethren attended the nuptials, such as John Travolta. Interestingly, though the head of Scientology’s New York branch made the invitation list Oprah Winfrey did not, despite practically launching the couple on her daytime show.

Maybe Cruise’s handlers didn’t want to remind anyone about his past performance as a “couch jumper.” Oprah still sent a gift even though she was apparently snubbed.

Tom Cruise chose as his “best man” Scientology’s ”top dog” David Miscavige, the man who appears to be leader for life of the controversial church, which many have called a “cult.”

Reportedly some Hollywood notables were “no shows.”

Needless to say Cruise’s former employer Sumner Redstone, the man who dumped the actor from Paramount largely for talking too much publicly about his religion, wasn’t there.

The wedding vows like all things Scientology were hatched from the head of its creator L. Ron Hubbard and seemed more like stilted dialog lifted from a corny 1950s movie than a typical marriage ceremony.

During the service the Scientology minister asked the bride: “Do you take his fortune at its prime and ebb and seek with him best fortune for us all? Do you?” The bride responded: “I do.” Then the minister said: “Good then, I am sure you will and surer yet that you’ll fare well and staunchly as a wife.” To Cruise, he said: “And when she’s older do you keep her still? Do you?” He replied: “I do.”

What’s interesting to observe in Hubbard’s version of wedding vows is the complete absence of any reference to God. And to the bride’s parents who are staunchly conservative Roman Catholics any mention of Jesus.

Scientologists don’t believe in the bible, God or Jesus and are taught if the reach “Operating Thetan Level Three” (OT III), about “implanting,” which is done through space alien technology. Later, reportedly at OT VIII, they learn not so flattering details about how Christianity fits within that framework.

However, Katie Holmes parents both attended the wedding and told People Magazine that they were “very happy” to be there. And why not ? The pre-nuptial agreement reportedly negotiated in part by the father of the 27-year-old actress provides that she will receive $3 million dollars for each year that she remains “Mrs. Cruise,” plus a California mansion. And if Katie Holmes can somehow manage to make it to her 11th anniversary, she could hit the jackpot and get half of the 44-year-old actor’s entire fortune.

The bride’s parents may also be smiling because the Scientology ceremony their daughter participated in is not recognized by their church. So some day, just like Nicole Kidman the last Mrs. Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes can get an annulment and still walk down the aisle the second time in a Roman Catholic Church.

Andrea Bocelli sang Ave Maria at the reception.

Was that was a bone thrown to the bride’s family ?

Kidman and ex-girlfriend Penelope Cruz sent gifts. No word from Mimi Rogers, Cruise’s first wife, who once complained about their sex life. What advice do you think these exes would give the new Mrs. Cruise?

MSNBC says that the Katie Holmes should “forget about marriage counseling” if there are problems, because as Tom Cruise told Matt Lauer, psychology is a “Nazi science.” L. Ron Hubbard, Cruise’s hero, wasn’t that successful at marriage either. He was divorced too, but unlike the actor was also accused of bigamy.

Hubbard’s first wife said she had trouble leaving him and claimed the former Sci-fi writer subdued her with a “hammerlock, causing strangulation and thus preventing any outcry” and later ran away with their baby daughter. Let’s hope that Tom Cruise isn’t planning to follow his hero’s example if things get tough.

Hubbard’s third wife, if one questionable union is counted, Mary Sue Hubbard did time in federal prison over a Scientology-related criminal conspiracy. Hopefully Katie Holmes will never experience such harsh housing.

Things don’t seem to look that promising though. When all the festivities were done in Italy the groom, his bride and “best man” reportedly flew away together.

Cruise looks taller

Not exactly romantic, but maybe it is somehow spiritually fulfilling to bring the head of your church along to begin married life. And news reports have noted that the height difference between Cruise and Holmes may be an issue for the actor, who is at least two inches shorter than Mrs. Cruise. Apparently he was concerned enough to stage a wedding photo that makes him look taller.

Tom Cruise is supposedly set to begin shooting a new movie with Robert Redford in January. Katie Holmes has no reported career plans, other than of course being Mrs. Tom Cruise, which pays rather well.

Many have said that this much publicized romance and marriage is little more than a scheme to help the middle-aged actor’s career and give his public image a boost.

The Italian wedding was “branded” a “Scientology stunt.” And it was revealed that the couple had already “officialized” their marriage before departing for Italy in Los Angeles. But can this $10 million dollar wedding make Tom Cruise a hot Hollywood star again ? Despite the price tag for the production it’s unlikely to count at the box office.

Tom Cruise may actually be morphing into something of a celebrity oddity much like Michael Jackson, another superstar that began his descent into pop culture irrelevance with a reportedly contrived Scientology marriage.
