Also stupid or clearly false expressions must be allowed as free expressions in a democracy, as long as individuals are not harmed by the expressions. The questionable thing about the Scientology cult is, however, that their operation is harmful for individuals. — Olav Gunnar Ballo

The Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services is considering prosecuting and banning some Scientology practices, in particular the use of the Scientology personality test to sell courses. State Secretary Rigmor Aasrud said that the activities in question might be prosecuted as fraud or as violations of existing healthcare regulations. A Norwegian Member of Parliament (MP) whose daughter killed herself after taking such a test, supports the idea of prosecuting illegal practices rather than trying to ban the movement as a whole.

The statement was made after three journalists from the online edition of the newspaper Verdens Gang (VG) took the test. The journalists wore hidden recording devices, and did not disclose that they were journalists; VG put the recordings on its website. Scientology staff members told all three that they should buy a course to handle psychological issues. Two of the journalists filled out the 200 questions with honest answers, while the third gave answers consistent with being depressed. The "depressed" journalist was told that he should avoid traditional medicine, while one of the "normal" journalists was told that the course was her only hope for improvement unless she wanted to start taking "chemicals".

Matthias Fosse, spokesperson for the Church of Scientology in Norway, said that the staff members in question were acting individually. He said that the Church of Scientology does not give medical advice, but that it encourages people to focus on the side effects of medications, and is critical of the "over-medication" of psychiatric patients.

Olav Gunnar Ballo, a Norwegian MP and medical doctor whose daughter Kaja suddenly killed herself after a negative experience with the Scientology test in France in March 2008, released a book about Kaja's life in April 2009. The book debuted on 2nd place in the Norwegian best seller list. Ballo listened to the recorded test result sessions from VG and said that he found the practice "horrible and harmful". He told the newspaper Dagbladet that Norway could have something to learn from the current French prosecution of Scientology corporations and individuals, by prosecuting specific harmful practices rather than banning Scientology as a whole.

Matthias Fosse said that France is a far more secular society than Norway, and that France were going too far in their prosecution. He said that France has a list of 165 organizations considered to be "sects", which not just included Scientology but also covered Baptists such as former U.S. president Bill Clinton. The list which Fosse referred to is a list from the 1995 Parliamentary Commission on Cults in France. Fosse said that the OSCE, the U.S. State Department and the UN had criticised French "violations of human rights".

THE CULT OF GREED... also in Norway

Cover headline: "THE CULT OF GREED... also in Norway"
(Yes, "Sekt" is literally "sect", but it's used as "cult" is in English, with the same negative connotations)

Quote:
Keeps their member list secret.

Refuses to turn over their financial statements to Kapital. (Kapital argues that Scientology should legally file their financial statements to the official registry at Brønnøysund because their - at least previously - millions of gross income. They might also be looking at lots of tax avoision here.)

Has no authorized auditor (revisor) now and the company they used had a reputation for sloppy work.

May be neglecting their obligation to for financial records.

Are performing high cost business consulting, tax free.

Are not paying VAT on personality tests.

Large amounts are quickly sent to Denmark and the USA to get them out of reach of court seizure - the case of Magne Berge is used as an example. He won a settlement and getting the money out of Scientology was quite a hassle.

Almost no external control.

Not a single person in the Oslo Co$ board of directors would be eligible for a loan. They can't even get a cell phone subscription unless they pre-pay it. (Personal note: The corporate sort-out and orgs having boards are just shams anyway, since the Sea Org and David Miscavige decides everything anyway.)

Central persons in the leadership run businesses within the business, sit in each others business boards, and let business lapse.

Cultivate celebrities, and entice young people with luxury.

Names named (now that Kapital has named them we can too):

First the four board members:

Niels Syvander Baardseth, the leader of the Oslo org: Has some old debts which he failed to pay and has at least two cases of violent crime on his record - but this was before he became a scientologist.

Tom Erik Landberg: Is listed as the board chairman for Oslo in the BRREG, but this turns out to be incorrect old information according to Fosse. Landberg has a foreign corporation in the form of a NUF (Norskregistrert utenlandsk foretak) called "Aberio Ltd." registered in England. Landberg and Fosse are board members in the organization "Si nei til stoff si ja til livet" ("Say no to drugs yes to life").

Elin M. Samstad: Is married. Has no significant personal (declared) income of her own.

Niels Baardseth: Is married. Has no significant personal (declared) income of his own.

Now for the other people:

Dan-Viggo Bergtun: A "top" public scientologist in Norway. Bankruptcy artist. Has many personal properties though. Wife also scientologist. Big donor. Responsible for the fraudulent story saying the then Norwegian minister of defense was going to distribute Way to Happiness to soldiers and other lies. (It's the same kind of thing as the Way to Happiness douchebaggery in their videos now - 7 Elven, Red Cross etc.)

Bergtun also was the guy who was supposed to buy the Norwegian Fail Boat (pictured, run aground) from Thomas Øye, famous Norwegian shady character. (See NOKAS fatal robbery and the armed robbery of Munch paintings "The Scream" and "Madonna".)

Arne Skaret: Probably not scientologist, but auditor in the extremely sloppy auditing firm Sentrum Revisjon

Paal Fuglevaag: Another public scientologist. Also audited by Sentrum Revisjon. Board member in The Watt Group and Watt Engros, also audited by Sentrum Revisjon. Owes taxes, but he's going to pay them.

Mårten Runow: Runs U-MAN.

Klar Kurs: Company run by scientologists Rasmus Lossius and Trond Samstad (husband of Oslo Co$ board member Elin M. Samstad). They deliver communication and leadership courses (personal note: and probably personal e-meter blackmail services ).

Matthias Fosse: Spokesperson for the Oslo org. Has a part-time normal job in a normal business. Is hurt that Kapital spoke to anybody but him for the story, and calls their investigation "religious persecution".

Glory Marcabia. Taxes will be paid.

PS: Isn't it ironic that a Scientology org can't get themselves an auditor ?

Church of Scientology's most hated Norwegian

Testimony of Geir Isenes

Norwegian newspaper VG today (March 20, 2010) released their weekend supplement issue "VG Helg" (VG Weekend), which has a front-page thats named "Church of Scientology's most hated Norwegian"

In the 7 page article:

Detailing, again, Geir Isenes defection in detail
Marty Rathbun, Mike Rinder, De Vocht, DM, Gold Base,
Hank von Helvete (Hank from Hell, turbonegro), his manager, their CCHR activity,
and more footbullets from our very own "Tommy Davis", OSA-loon Matthias Fosse.

Comment of Anonymous

Geir Isene has spent all of his adult life in the cult. The natural development from shy teenager to self assured adult that most people experienced happened inside the cult, and I think he is giving old Hubbard the credit. It will take some years for him to get it out of his system. He's gone from full cultie, through DM-bad, everything else good to "parts of LRHs tech is good" in two years. No need to demand his head on a pole just yet.

He has announced he want to make an "Independent convention" in Oslo this spring, I'd guess with the aim of reforming the cult. There's very little chance he'll actually be able to do that, but he has enough clout to seriously rock the the boat for Miscavige. I guess the convention will be a chance to see OSA out in full parade over here at this side of the pond.

Short excerpt from the article that I found rather interesting:

The centrally located and capacious office of 800 kvm that the group rent from property investor Christian Ringnes stands in stark contrast to the economical realities of the Oslo-Org. The church of Scientology, Oslo has three different phone numbers for the public, non of them are in use.

A check with the credit companies shows it is registered 14 cases of direct debit with the church since January last year, and 22 cases in the last four years.

Note: The direct debit (incasso) record is open to banks and other companies, which means they won't get ant form of loan, and companies will think twice before selling them anything.

It seems the cult really is starving.

Good journalism is good.
